I wasn’t expecting that. Then again, I wasn’t expecting to have to cast a spell on her. But, I admit, seeing her like that made it a bit easier to put on my act.
She turned around and wrapped her arm around me, pulling her toward me quickly into a fierce kiss. Whoa. I gripped her waist. Okay, this was crazy different. So unlike her.
Truly untamed.
She pulled me back toward the bathroom counter. She was strong. Fierce. It was hard for me to pull away, but I managed to.
“Wait, wait,” I stopped her as she tried to kiss me again. “Contain yourself, okay?” I laughed. “No romance right now.”
She scoffed. “Who said anything about romance?” She moved toward me again. “Just sex.”
I stepped back. “No. None of that. Stop it. We need to get back out there and talk to Damien.”
She grinned flirtatiously. “Later on, my darling, you’re mine.” She brushed past me and out the door.
I held the edge of the counter and looked down. What the hell was that? She was like a completely different person! I looked at myself in the mirror.
“What the hell?” I gazed at myself, my eyes widening. They were red, not brown. I blinked a few times. “Now I’m seeing things?” I looked again. Still red. “What happened?” My eyes only turned red when I harnessed all of my power into a dark magic spell. The spell I cast on Jade wasn’t that strong. This shouldn’t have happened. And they should have gone right back to normal. They don’t stay red.
Wait. Shared power.
“No,” I whispered, my face becoming pale. I smiled. “No way.” There was another legend that spoke of two people who would unite with strong power. One light spellcaster and one dark. “I’m looking too far into it.” I stopped myself from remembering the rest. It wasn’t important.
I stepped out and sat back down again. Damien stared at me for a long time, making me uncomfortable.
“Problem?” I asked, frustrated.
“Your eyes,” he said. “Surely you know of the legend.”
I shook my head, my eyes widening. “Damien, don’t.”
He grinned. “So you do.”
“I’m sure it’s a mistake.”
Jade crossed her legs, staring at her nails. “Boys, boys, legends are just a bunch of crap people have thrown together to scare the piss out of those who read them.” She scoffed. “There’s one that says my son will be the Destroyer of the realm.” She waved her hand. “It’s bull.”
I shrugged. “She’s not wrong.”
Damien laughed. “I like this side of you, Jade.”
She rolled her eyes. “Thanks, but I still don’t enjoy you very much.”
I shot a glare at her. “Jade! Jeez!”
She laughed. “Nah, he knows I’m just joking, Marco, lighten up!” She sat forward. “I’m bored. You two wanted to cause mayhem. So, when does that start?”
Damien stood up. “Right now.”
I followed them quietly. This was insane. Now Jade was evil and I was the nice one? I decided to just follow, loosening up and trying to tap into my old self.
Just as long as I didn’t completely go back, right?
Damien led up to a cottage in the countryside. Crystal had followed us quietly. Good. After all, the goal here was for me to break that spell. Then I would remove my spell from Jade. Easy.
“That house is a facade,” Damien said. “This here is where the real magic happens.”
Jade bit her finger and nudged me. “Mmm, sounds nice.”
I laughed quietly. “Yes, it does.”
“Keep it in your pants, Marco.” Damien growled. “Now is not the time.”
“Wha- but I-” I sighed. “Yeah, okay.” I wasn’t even the one that initiated that, but alright.
“It’s my understanding that Ruby Hayes has disappeared.” Damien spoke quietly. “Marco, I need you to find her.”
I crossed my arms. “How am I supposed to do that?”
Damien sighed loudly. “Have you forgotten your little vision power?”
“Oh,” I slapped my head with my palm. “Right.”
He laughed, patting my shoulder. “You were good for too long. Now. Find her.”
I curled my lip, frustrated. “Yeah, alright.” I held my hands up and they began projecting a hologram with a vision. I located Ruby, but I didn’t know where she was.
Damien watched, as did Jade.
“I don’t recognize this place,” I said. “It’s Victorian, but it’s not Wolfsbane.”
Jade stepped closer. “Is there a way to get a view of the house itself?”
I closed my eyes, channeling my energy. When I opened them, the vision was the same, the hologram flickering. My dark magic was failing because I mentally didn’t want to do it. ‘Old Marco,’ I told myself. ‘Don’t fail me.’ I thought back to my magic before we infiltrated the realm and the magic got stronger again. I grinned. ‘There you go.’ Closing my eyes again, I channeled my energy to the vision. “Zoom,” I whispered.
Finally, the image shifted to the exterior of the house. It was a red Victorian manor. I recognized it. It was in Forgotten Hollow.
“That’s the house next door to Wolfsbane,” Jade noted. “The home of Inna, Elle and Vlad Bloodvein.”
I put my hands down and the hologram fizzled out. “Yeah, well that’s where she is.”
Damien grinned. “Might want to practice that dark magic of yours.” He brushed past me.
I narrowed my eyes, frustrated. “Right. Yeah.” I walked away from them to explore the countryside. I sighed and gazed up at the stars. I needed to get my act together or Damien would know this was fake. Just like before. Time to forget all the good I had done I guess.
“Hey sexy,” I heard. Jade came up behind me, bringing her hands up under my shirt and slowly up my chest, seductively. I closed my eyes and leaned into her.
“Hey.”
“You’re tense,” she whispered. “You should be having fun with this, huh?” She brought a hand up to the front of my neck, massaging it.
I lifted my head, enjoying the sensation. “Yeah. Maybe I’m just tired.”
“Aww,” she moved to the front of me, her lip protruding. “That’s a shame.” She moved her fingertips down my sides like I did with her. I shivered. “I was looking forward to having my way with you later.”
She moved closer and kissed me fiercely again, grabbing my shirt with both hands and pulling me close to her. She intoxicated me immediately, and I wrapped my arms around her waist.
“Mmm,” she grinned. “There we go. Still doesn’t take much, hmm?”
I grinned. “Not with you. But this still really isn’t the time.”
“I can’t help it,” she smirked flirtatiously. “Those red eyes really suit you.”
I closed my eyes. “They’re still red?”
She nodded. “Yes. Now stop talking.”
She kissed me again, pulling me down into the grass, giggling playfully. I laughed as well. She was acting so crazy. But I kind of loved it. She pushed me down on my back and straddled me.
“Jade, really, we shouldn’t-“
I was cut off with a kiss. She started to move her hips against mine. I gripped hers, trying to stop her. I pulled away. “Not now.”
“Come on!” She grinned. “Live a little!”
I sat up and stroked her cheek. “Mi reina, I want to, and we will. But Damien still needs us, and I’m sure he’s watching. That kind of creeps me out.”
She kissed my neck. “Mmm, maybe I like being watched.”
I closed my eyes again, but started to get frustrated. “Well, I don’t. Can you just stop?” I pushed her back gently. “I’ll make it up to you later.”
She pouted playfully. “Oooookayyyyy.” She got off of me and I stood up, brushing grass off my pants. She and I made our way back to the cottage.
“Jade, I need you to get Ruby here.” Damien said as we approached him.
Jade tilted her head. “Why do we need her?”
“Threaten,” I said quietly. I don’t know where that came from. I didn’t think it. I just said it.
“Yes,” Damien nodded happily. “Yes. We already tore you away from Caleb and Morgyn. Now we will tear them apart, and tear Ruby from Caleb.”
She crossed her arms. “While I’m not opposed to this, Damien, me finding them having sex on my couch tore them apart. Caleb is distraught. We should leave that be for now.”
Damien thought for a moment. “Yes. I suppose you’re right. However, we could kill her and let her back into your mind. Then you and Ruby would have left him and turned to Marco.”
She rolled her eyes. “I’d rather not. She’s too kind, too nice. Kind of annoying, honestly.”
Damien laughed. “Alright, fair.”
Jade shrugged. “Morgyn hasn’t been messed with enough.” She glanced between Damien and I. “He was the one you two had an issue with, no?”
I clenched my fist. “Yes.” My body was reacting to this statement. It tensed and I felt my heart speed up. What was going on with me? I was actually becoming filled with rage, something I hadn’t felt in years. “Then and now. He banished us. It was his power that did that. And now, he just tossed you aside like trash over something that wasn’t in your control.” I growled. “If anyone involved here deserves any sort of pain, it’s him.”
Damien tilted his head and grinned. “I had my doubts about you, Marco. But it seems you still want your revenge.”
I nodded. “Damn right.”
“What do you propose we do?”
Jade stepped closer and looped her arms around mine, resting her head on my shoulder.
I grinned. “Let’s bring him here and find out.”
Jade giggled. “This could be fun!”
I opened my hands again, a strong hologram appearing before me. It showed Morgyn wandering the realm, helping students. He would never see us coming.
“I’ll teleport him in,” Jade grinned.
“No, wait,” Damien shook his head. “Not yet. You’re still new to this, Jade. He will easily go back and tell everyone about you. We could all be banished.”
I shuttered. No. I couldn’t go there again. “We can cast magic from afar. The way we conjured the dragon war.”
Damien nodded. “Good plan. Let’s sleep on it and work on that tomorrow.” He turned to Crystal. “Shall we?”
They walked into the cottage and I took Jade’s hand, leading her out into the field.
“You wanted something adventurous,” I grinned, gripping her waist and pulling her closer. “Alone time in the grass, under the stars.”
She smiled. “That’s too romantic.” She kissed my neck, biting it softly, then harder. I hissed from the pain, but didn’t want her to stop. I took her hand again and laid her down in the grass, pressing my hips against hers.
She moaned softly in my ear. “Don’t give me romance, Marco. Give me lust. Your deepest desires. Do what you want with me.”
Damn, she was really different. Wild. She pushed her hips up to grind them against mine, pushing her body up to bite my neck again. She was fierce. Lustful. Something I had never seen from her. Her eyes flashed red, gleaming with a fire, passion searing through both of us. I undressed her quickly, and she pushed me onto my back, doing the same to me. In a flash, she was at my thighs, teasing me, moving almost impossibly fast.
I groaned. “Slow down.”
She did, but not by much. After teasing for only a few more minutes, she straddled me, allowing me to enter her. She was even more wild, and so was I, our combined power stronger than ever as it exchanged through our skin, sending shocks through our veins. Yet, despite how crazy we were for each other in the moment, we were able to draw it out for a long time, rolling in the grass from time to time, giving each other a turn to dominate. I never wanted this to end.
Ever.
When it did, we released at nearly the same time, panting and moaning, dewed with sweat. She rested her head on me and I stroked her hair lightly.
“What’s gotten into you?” I attempted to speak, but my words came out as a whisper.
“I have no idea,” she replied with a giggle. She seemed a bit more like herself now, speaking quietly and enjoying my romantic gestures. It grounded me, making me feel more like the person I had been for four years, and certainly not who I had started to convince myself I was from being around Damien.
‘It’s my power,’ I thought. ‘I cast that spell on her and there was a transfer of power, completing a circuit. It brought my dark power more to the surface than it had ever been, and brought her power, but much darker through her core as well. This is dangerous. We may never come back from this if we fall too deep.’ I became worried. She would lose her sage rank. We could be banished. Or worse; killed. If Damien found out our secret, he wouldn’t revive us. And being dark spellcasters, Morgyn wouldn’t either. ‘I can’t let it get that far.’
“What are you thinking about?” She asked me quietly.
I cleared my throat. “You. Us.”
“Good.” She grinned.
I smiled and kissed her forehead.
“What’s this legend you and Damien were talking about?”
“I-” I stopped. Shit. I was hoping she wouldn’t ask. “You know, it’s just a legend. It means nothing.”
“I could use a good bedtime story.”
I laughed. “You plan to sleep naked in the grass?”
“If you sleep naked in the grass with me.” She trailed her fingertips down my chest to my belly, then my groin. “If sleep is what we can call it.”
I took her hand before she could grab me. “We have a big day ahead of us. We should sleep. Inside. On a bed.”
“Aww, you’re no fun,” she groaned in frustration.
I laughed again.
“If I go inside with you, will you tell me about the legend?”
I sighed. “Sure. But don’t take it seriously, okay? It’s not real.”
We got up and got dressed, heading into the cottage and going to the guest room. As we laid down, she cuddled close.
I sighed again. “So, legend describes what has happened between us as a balance of power between two lovers. The two lovers that combined, essentially rule the realm. Higher than the council, the sages, all of them.”
“Like a king and queen,” she said.
I nodded hesitantly. “Yes. If they choose to accept those roles.”
“We would, mi rey,” she grinned.
I shook my head. “I don’t want that power.” But that was a lie. This dark magic was slowly taking over my thoughts. It made me crave the power I had when I was at my worst. We were quite possibly the most dangerous couple in the realm now. If I couldn’t control this, it would be disastrous. “Uh, so, legend states that these two were destined and would always find a way to be together, no matter what the cost.”
She gazed at me. “So, immediately leaving my poly relationship, I’ve found my soulmate?”
I smirked. “That’s what it says. But let’s not think about that. It’s too soon.” I thought for a moment. “But the legend you read and the legend I know are intertwined. If this legend is true, it would explain why your son is the destroyer. That’s what he’s been named.”
She rested her head back on me. “But that doesn’t make sense. He’s not also your son.”
“That doesn’t matter,” I said. “However, if we ever had a child-“
“Which we won’t,” she interrupted.
“Sure, but if we did, he would be what legend says is the protector. He would watch over the realm and protect it from danger, especially from the destroyer.”
“Talk about sibling rivalry,” she joked.
I laughed. “Yes. A very extreme case.”
“Well, I don’t believe any of it,” she shrugged. “My son is too good, too pure. He would never be this destroyer you mentioned.”
‘Good,’ I thought. Sadly, though, I know tho1se legends were more like prophecies. They were true, but masked as legends as they hadn’t been proven to be true.
They hadn’t happened yet.
I closed my eyes, and before I knew it, we were both asleep. Tomorrow was a new day.
