And so, that weekend, in Myshuno Meadows, we wed. It was casual, but beautiful and intimate. Just the two of us and the one to marry us. Our sons were our witnesses, and it was settled.
I was his, and he was mine. For Eternity. Mi rey. My king.
Kyler approached us. “Congratulations,” he smiled warmly. “And jeez, it’s about time.”
I giggled and hugged him. “Thank you, baby. It is about time.” I nudged Marco with my elbow, who laughed.
“So, I told Ambrosia about this,” he said, wringing his hands nervously. “She agreed not to come, but offered for Ethan and I to stay with her for a week or so.”
I tilted my head. “Why?”
Ethan smiled happily. “You need a honeymoon!”
Kyler nodded with a smirk. “And she kind of wanted to surprise you with these.” He held out two boxes. He gave one to me and the other to Marco.
We glanced at each other and opened the boxes. Mine had two round trip plane tickets to Sulani. Marco’s had keys to a rental beach mansion on the water.
Ethan hand me a card, sealed in an envelope. “And this is from all of us.”
I could barely speak from seeing the gifts already given. “I…”
“Open it!” Ethan held his hands together in a praying position.
I opened it and read the card aloud. “Congratulations, Mama. I’m so happy for you! I know you wanted this to be small, so I shared my support in a different way. You and Marco need this. Wolfy and I will watch the boys. You two enjoy the sun and the start of married life. No refunds. I won’t accept the gifts back. Just go! Have fun! Here’s a little something else the boys helped me buy.”
I held up a prepaid debit card.
“There’s more on the back,” Kyler explained.
Of course there was. Ambrosia couldn’t keep anything short. I smiled to myself and flipped the card over.
“This card has $2,000 on it, ready to be spent how you choose. Oh, and uh…look behind you.”
I turned around and saw Ambrosia. She had a beaming smile on her face.
“Oh my God, Ambrosia!” I pulled her into a tight hug. “Thank you so much. You are incredible!”
She giggled. “I’m glad you like it. I was a little worried, but your reaction was perfect.”
Marco shook his head with a smile. “You really know how to go all out.”
She laughed and hugged him as well. “Congrats. You deserve this. All of it. Now go, have fun. I’ll handle the squirts.”
We hugged our boys goodbye, thanked Ambrosia at least another ten times and headed to the apartment to pack for the trip.
Once in Sulani, I was taken aback. It was warm, with palm trees swaying in the breeze, the clear blue water glistening in the sunset.
“It’s breathtaking,” I whispered.
Marco wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in my neck. “It’s ours for a whole week, mi reina.”
I giggled. “what do you want to do first?”
“Eat!” He tapped his belly. “I’m starving.”
I nodded. “Great idea.”
We made our way through the sandy walkways to get to the restaurant nearby. Sitting down, we were treated to cultural music of the isles, specialty food and fine wine. Marco bought an extra bottle to take back to the lodge to toast to our new lives.
By the time we got back, it was dark. I headed to the bedroom and changed into my swimsuit. I was not going to let our first night go without a dip in the sea.
As I made my way back down the stairs, Marco wrapped his arms around me and swayed me from side to side.
“This feels like a dream,” he mused.
“I know.” I flashed him a smile. “And Ambrosia is a godsend.”
He laughed. “That she is. I think we owe her some vacation photos.”
“I have to agree, Me. Lew.”
His face turned a bit more serious, but he still had a small smile. “And, you, as always, are stunning. Perfect.” He paused, leaning closer to me so our lips were almost touching. “Official Mrs. Lew.”
I giggled as we kissed, wrapping my arms around him.
“I love you,” I whispered as we hugged tightly.
“And I love you.” He replied happily.
We stood there for a ment before pulling away.
“Coming swimming with me?” I asked.
“Of course!” He stripped off his clothes down to his boxer briefs.
“No, uh, trunks?” I asked, confused.
He laughed. “Nope! It’s just us, alone. You’re lucky I’m not skinny dipping “
I grinned flirtatiously. “I’m lucky that I don’t get to see that?”
He returned my grin. “Not yet.”
I took his hand, laughing softly and heading out to our back porch, which also served as a dock for the water. Marco jumped right in while I used the ladder. I slipped in and shivered a little.
Marco smiled, swimming toward me. He hugged me from behind, and I leaned into him.
“Our own little slice of paradise.” He glanced around at the tropical setting around us.
I closed my eyes, taking it all in. “The week is going to fly by. I already don’t want to go home.”
He nodded. “Home is chaos. We needed something like this.”
I sighed. “You know, we don’t bring out each other’s darkness when we are away from there.*
He stayed quiet, simply resting his head on my shoulder. It was like any time that was brought up, he avoided the subject.
“I won’t being it up here,” I said, turning to face him. “This is a fun trip. This celebrates our new life.”
He smiled sadly. “Yes.”
I kissed him softly. “So get those bad thoughts out of your head.”
He nodded with a smile. “Of course, mi amor.”
I giggled as he kissed me again.
And we didn’t stop. We didn’t break the kiss. It only got more intense as we continued. He began to tease my skin with his fingertips.
I laughed softly and moved away, splashing him. “Getting feisty already?”
“Can you blame me?” He moved closer again. “I just got married to the most beautiful human being in the world. I’m happy, smitten, in love.” He kissed me again, pinning my hands above my head. “I just can’t help it.”
I giggled as he kissed me yet again. “Maybe we could save this for bedtime?”
“Are you sure?” He asked, gazing into my eyes, narrowing his. “We have this little island all to ourselves. No one will see a thing, and we are just married.” He trailed his fingertips up my side. “Maybe that calls for something a little different?”
I blushed a little, nervous. But honestly, I liked the idea. And we didn’t get as intimate when not in darkness because lust consumed us while in darkness.
But this wasn’t lust. The excitement I felt, the rush of adrenaline and the butterfly feelings, this was the moment. This was the love I had for him.
Stop worrying. Those words replayed in my mind. And my brain was right. This was our honeymoon.
“Yes. Different.” I nodded.
He smiled warmly and pressed his body against mine, kissing my neck seductively. I closed my eyes, tilting my head back as he teased me. In no time, we let our desires take over, undressing what little clothes we had on. Our hands explored each other’s bodies and caressed and teased until we couldn’t take it anymore. I ran my nails down his back as he entered me, once again getting lost in each other for a long time until we climaxed.
I rested my head on him. “Somehow it feels just a bit better now that we are finally married.” I giggled softly. “Is that all in my head?”
He laughed. “If it is, then it’s in mine too.” He kissed my forehead. “And just the romantic atmosphere here; the warmth, tropical backdrop, gentle breeze. Man, I love it here. I don’t want to leave.”
“Then we’ll come here more often,” I nodded decisively. “Maybe after all of this darkness stuff is resolved and we have no more worries about it.”
He sighed, but didn’t say anything. I gazed at him. “You okay?”
He put on a sad smile. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m good, mi reina.”
I was skeptical, but left it alone. We decided to get out of the water. Carrying our wet clothes, we changed into robes and made our way to the bedroom.
I cuddled close with him. “This is perfection.”
He stroked my hair. “You are perfection.”
I laughed. “You sap.”
He kissed my forehead with a quiet laugh. We cuddled for awhile longer before heating things up again, leading to another lovemaking session before we fell asleep.
I awoke on my belly, my arm stretched over Marco’s chest as he slept. I laughed a little. Well, that was new. I sat up and pulled my robe around me again. I stood up and tied it, walking over to a sliding glass door and gazing out at the water. I smiled, closed my eyes and inhaled deeply.
“I love it here,” I whispered to myself.
The week went by quite quickly. We enjoyed the sights, visited the waterfall and volcano, enjoyed our wine, swam a lot, enjoyed each other’s company. If there was ever a perfect honeymoon, this was it.
On the last night, Marco and I settled into bed. I rolled onto my side and closed my eyes. But after only a few minutes, he was at my side.
“Hey.” He moved my hair aside and kissed my neck.
I smiled and closed my eyes. “Hey you.”
“Can I talk to you for a moment?” He seemed sad or worried.
I nodded and rolled over.
“What are we going to do when we are home?”
I sighed and looked away. “Try to avoid darkness and think of how great this trip was.”
He smiled. “That sounds nice. I hope it works.”
We were silent for a moment. He seemed like he had more to say, but held back.
“What’s up, mi rey?” I asked, stroking his cheek.
He placed his hand on mine and closed his eyes. After a deep sigh, he opened his mouth.
But then closed it.
He opened his eyes and sighed again. “God there’s so much I want to say, but I can’t, Jade.” He looked away. “It’s about the legend. There’s…” he stopped as his voice broke. “There’s something it said that I can’t shake.” He stopped again, almost as if he couldn’t bring himself to say it. He took a deep breath. “No going back now. So, we are destined to become this. It’s supposed to happen. It’s going to happen.” He took my hands. “We wanted to plan a big wedding with everyone we love there to see it. I decided to do something small, and I’m glad you agreed. Maybe one day we can have a big ceremony, but I wanted us to experience marriage while we were still us. Who knows what the future brings?”
This sounded like a monologue. And not a good one. I stroked his cheek. “Marco, you make it sound like one of us won’t make it out of that.”
“Someone-” he stopped. “It’s precautionary.”
“We can revive each other!” I giggled. “Don’t get so worked up. Everything will work out.”
He smiled, but it wasn’t genuine. He let out a nervous laugh. “Heh. Yeah. It will.”
“Come on,” I took his hand and stood up. “Our honeymoon isn’t over yet! Let’s just enjoy the moment. Don’t worry about the future.”
He followed. “But we were going-“
“Shh!” I smiled. “We don’t need sleep right now. We still have a bottle of wine.”
He laughed softly, but still looked bothered. I didn’t blame him. I was scared too. I put on this front that I wasn’t, easing Marco’s mind, but he was right. We couldn’t stop this. We were only prolonging it by trying to fight. This was our destiny, and we had to trust our sons to help save us from it. The damage was done.
We sat down on the dock, popping the cork of the wine and pouring glasses for ourselves. We cuddled close on a lounger, enjoying the moment and occasionally sipping our wine.
After a short while, maybe with the atmosphere and the wine, we forgot about the magical problems we were stuck in and once again got lost in each other.
I straddled Marco, smiling at him and stroking his hair.
“God, I love you so much,” I whispered. “It’s so strange how we came together, but I’m so glad we did. Even after all these years, I can’t imagine myself with anyone else. No matter what comes our way, as long as we are together, we will conquer it all.”
He smiled and closed his eyes, taking my hand and kissing it. “I hope so. I can’t imagine our lives being chaotic forever.”
“You know what? Let it be chaotic,” I giggled. “I have no problem being an old lady, fighting off evil dragons and magical socerers with my walker and sassy words.”
He laughed. “That would be a sight to see.”
I kissed him. “We’ll see it together.”
He looked away sadly. “I sure hope so.”
I furrowed my brow and sat up. “Okay, seriously, what’s going on?”
He pulled me into a kiss. “Shhh, don’t worry about that.”
I sat back up. “You can seduce me once you tell me why you are acting like you don’t see a future for us.”
He looked at me with pleading eyes. “Please don’t do this.”
“What do you know?” I demanded.
He growled. “God dammit.” He closed his eyes. “One person is going to die in order to restore balance after our reign.”
My eyes widened. “One of us?”
He shook his head. “I don’t know for sure. But I am willing to be that one in order to stop this.”
“No! No way! I won’t let you. If you die, I’ll revive you.”
“You can’t. Reviving me would only put the realm in danger.”
“So this is why we’re here. Because you don’t think it’s a possibility. You think you’re going to die.” I crossed my arms.
He caressed my cheek. “Let’s think about this later. Not now. Please.”
He sat up and kissed me, pulling me back down to him and wrapping his arms around me. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I couldn’t get it out of my head. Who would die? Did the legend say? Maybe it was just a random spellcaster. Did it have to be us? Our kids? The sages? Caleb? My head started to spin.
“Marco,” I pulled away. “Distract me.” I rested my head on his.
He nodded and kissed me again, slowly, deeply, teasing my skin.he sat up and we moved so I was lying on my back. He kissed my neck and slowly made his way down my body. His soft kisses and touches pushed the stress from my mind immediately. He undressed me slowly, prolonging the anticipation before he touched his lips to my inner thigh.
As he moved up, I bit my lip, watching him.
However, with the touch of his tongue, my eyes closed and I tilted my head back, stroking his hair. No, surely it wouldn’t be us.
Ugh, Jade, stop it! Enjoy the moment!
I focused on the sensations, trying my hardest to keep my thoughts from wandering. Quiet, breathless moans escaped my lips, but my mind kept wandering back.
Would we be murderers? Would someone die at our hand?
He moved faster, sending shivers and waves of pleasure through me. I gripped the cushion tightly, coming back into the moment.
Focus on him, Jade. He’s the only one that matters right now.
“Oh God,” I whispered. “Don’t stop, please.”
He quickened his pace, further pushing the thoughts from my mind. I thought of us. We were finally married. After all of these years, I was truly his. The way it should be.
Life events make us so happy, but then it’s overshadowed by something. Every time. Let us be happy. Please, just-
The thoughts disappeared in a mist as my climax hit. I sat forward, gripping his hair.
“Kiss me,” I begged.
We rose to our knees, kissing lustfully. I ran my nails down his body, teasing his neck as I moved down. I planted kisses all over him as I made my way lower.
I focused my attention on his pleasure, or tried to. My conflicting thoughts made it hard for me to stay in the moment. My heart pounded, but not because of sex or teases or anything good. I was genuinely scared.
Someone will die.
I quickened my pace, his quiet moans and groans of approval keeping me going, directing me toward my next move.
Who will it be? My mind was silent for a few moments after that question. I couldn’t answer it. I couldn’t even speculate. So many people I cared about were involved.
Let the darkness consume you. Get it over with. Now you have the key. You know how this will end. Execute the plan and life will return to normal. Don’t let anyone in your family die. It’s not us, it’s-
Marco grabbed my shoulders, his own release fast approaching. I teased him as I continued, bringing him to climax quickly. Crazed, he pushed me down with a grin and entered me quickly.
And only then, my mind was quiet. I focused on him as he focused on me. Lost in the ment. Lost in each other. It was perfect. Everything I dreamed of. Marriage. Family. True happiness.
And a shadow over it all.
I closed my eyes, pulling him closer into a kiss. Distract me, Marco. My thoughts are racing. I need you. I need us. I need reassurance.
Please don’t die, Marco. I love you too much. If you leave, I’ll leave. Great. Toxic thoughts. No. No, please stop.
Our breaths quickened as we brought each other closer to the edge. It only felt like a few minutes, but the sky was becoming lighter. It was early morning now.
I don’t want this to end. If it does, my mind will wander. Hell, it’s even wandering now.
“Ah,” I gripped his back. “Slow down.”
“What’s wrong?” He asked breathlessly.
“I just…I don’t want this to end. Ever.” I felt tears in my eyes.
He smiled and kissed my neck, moving to my ear. Something he knew was my weakness. Soft whispers.
“I don’t either, mi reina.”
Oh, no, no, Marco, my thoughts continued. You have no idea why I don’t want this to end.
His slow, but deep movements, the romance and tenderness, it made me think of him again. This moment. Love, not lust. Life, not death.
“Jade,” he whispered, “I love you.”
I smiled, nuzzling my head between his shoulder and neck. “I love you too.” The tears returned. “So much.”
He sighed and stopped. “I know you’re still thinking about it.”
“No, please,” I begged. “Don’t stop. We can talk about this later.”
He bit my neck softly, prompting a moan from me. “Let me take your mind off of it.”
“Yes, please.”
And with that, our session became a bit more like those we had when in darkness. Less romantic, and far more sexy and rough. Our cries and moans mixed together until we couldn’t take it. He let me release first before he did. We slowed, and he rested his head on me. As we caught our breath, I stroked his sweat-dampened hair and sighed contently.
After awhile, he gazed at me. “Please try not to worry.”
I closed my eyes. “How can I not?”
“We will figure it out.”
“Will we?” I looked at him with sad eyes. “The darkness is impossible for me to control and getting harder for you to. After awhile, we will forever be in darkness. We will love it. We will love the power.” Those tears filled my eyes again. “We may do horrible things. We may hurt those we love. We can’t stop this. And now someone has to die to stop it?”
He wiped the tears that had fallen down my cheeks. “I’m scared too.”
“If you die, Marco…”
“Shhh,” he kissed me softly. “Don’t worry about that, okay? You’ll drive yourself insane.”
I couldn’t stop the tears. I broke down. “I just want a normal life!”
He closed his eyes and rested his head on mine. “So do I, my love…” he sighed. “So do I.”
